The annual awards program is organized and presented by the Watertown Historical Commission.

The Watertown Historical Commission was established in 1985 to preserve, protect, and advocate for the Town’s historical or archaeological resources. Their responsibilities include implementing the Demolition Delay Ordinance, researching places of historic or archaeological value, educational outreach to the community, building upon the base of historic knowledge already in existence, and establishing long-lasting protection of these resources for future generations. The Commission cooperates with the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the State Archaeologist and renders opinions and recommendations to the Town Council, Town departments, and the public.

The Environmental Preservation Award is given to an individual, group, or project associated with the betterment of any property within Watertown which exercises techniques that restore the property of active community or private uses and or displays a beautification to any property which had previously fallen into disrepair or neglect.

(PCGI), one of Greater Boston’s premier residential and commercial design/build firms, won two 2008 Contractor of the Year (COTY) Awards. In a ceremony held in November, the company received the COTY Gold Award for Best Commercial Project and the Silver Award for Best Residential Specialty Space.

The Eastern Mass. Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (EM NARI) conducts the COTY Awards annually to recognize the best achievements in remodeling projects. This year, EM NARI received a record-breaking number of COTY Award entries. Each entry is comprised of “before and after” photography and detailed project descriptions. In selecting winners, judges considered functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty, problem solving, and entry presentation.

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized by our peers with these two awards,” said PCGI principal Dani Chedid. “This is a great validation of the hard work and talents of the entire PCGI team.”

PCGI received the Silver Award for Best Residential Specialty Space for a thoughtful residential renovation that transformed an ordinary basement in Belmont into an inviting media room and cigar room. The cigar room includes an air filtration system to contain and remove smoke, and features a wet bar with attractive glass-front wine refrigerators and a humidor drawer. The adjacent media center has its own wet bar and a sophisticated media system concealed within attractive cabinetry. The two adjoining rooms provide the perfect setting for a “guy’s night in,” or a comfortable gathering of family and friends.
